I'm very curious and love to read so diving in deep to a subject is exciting! My favorite places to do that are outside. Growing up we ate from gardens, pastures and oceans, but unfortunately, also from conveniently packaged food - a revelation and liberation to many home cooks during my childhood.
When I discovered my cholesterol was over 300 in my mid-20's, I knew things had to change. My grandmother and my mom both left their earthly bodies way too early, ravaged by the effects of processed food, toxic inputs and a lifestyle that generally undermined their health. I realized some of the same factors had been creeping into my life.
I knew there had to be a way to change course because our bodies are "fearfully and wonderfully made" - but they have needs. When we meet those needs, we can work with our bodies. That's what we can do together. (details below)
I love to eat! So, leaning into the memories of fresh and delicious foods, I started a slow change in my life and saw positive results. I was gradually adopting better habits, including reading food labels and getting curious about the impacts of nutrition and lifestyle on health.
I sought out healthcare providers who would help me work with my body and its amazing capabilities to heal. For instance, together we fixed poor body mechanics and weak muscles for a lasting solution to shoulder pain. Instead of statin therapy, I found educators to help me understand the importance of cholesterol and the relationship between different aspects of heart health.
Always preferring to look at the root causes of health issues, my own health journey led to more curiousity and further understanding of the value of nutrient dense eating and lifestyle factors. Along the way, I was also able to help one of my children resolve gut issues that were causing pain after meals. By addressing the terrain inside the gut, meals became enjoyable again.
Slowly, I was adopting more sustainable ways to address underlying imbalances and nutritional needs.
I provide personalized, sustainable, authentic support for individuals - for real people like you.
After 8 years in the nutritional supplement industry witnessing the power of functional medicine, I felt a call to stand in the gap where therapeutic partnerships are missing.
As a certified Functional Nutrition Counselor, I don't practice medicine. I use tools and frameworks to dive in underneath the symptoms or conditions, to look at the web of interactions in your body and ask "how did we get here?" I help you understand the lasting effects of diet and lifestyle modifications on you as a whole person and which ones work for you.
I couldn't agree more with my mentor Andrea Nakayama, who states "Everything's connected. We are all unique, and all things matter". I want to hear your story, your health journey, and meet you where you are on a path to authentic health.
